Is 1xBet Legal in India?

This is the question every other page on this site depends on, so we answer it plainly. In August 2025 India passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, which prohibits online money games — including betting — across the country. 1xBet holds no Indian licence. This page explains what the law says, what 1xBet's licence covers, why sites are blocked and what the risks are for users.

1xBet India Guide — What the Online Gaming Act 2025 says

What the Online Gaming Act 2025 says

The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 was passed by Parliament in August 2025. It separates e-sports and social games, which it aims to promote, from online money games — games played by paying or staking money in the expectation of winning money or other rewards. Online money games are prohibited.

The Act targets the services rather than individual players: offering online money games, advertising them and facilitating payments for them are offences, with penalties that include fines and imprisonment. Banks and payment providers are barred from processing transactions for such services.

  • Online money games, including betting, are prohibited
  • Offering and advertising them are offences
  • Banks and payment systems must not facilitate payments for them
  • E-sports and social games are treated separately

What 1xBet's licence covers

1xBet is operated by Caecus N.V. under a Curaçao online gaming licence. A Curaçao licence permits the operator to offer gambling under Curaçao's rules; it does not make the service legal in countries whose own laws prohibit it. 1xBet does not hold an Indian licence, and there is no Indian licence available for online betting under the 2025 Act.

Site blocking and payments

Indian authorities have repeatedly blocked betting websites, including 1xBet addresses, which is why users meet so-called mirror sites. Mirrors are a common route for phishing, as explained in our login guide. Because payment providers are barred from facilitating online money games, UPI, wallet and bank payments to such services may be declined or reversed, and accounts used for them may be reviewed by banks.

1xBet India Guide — Risks for users

Risks for users

Using an offshore betting site from India carries practical risks beyond the law itself. If a deposit is lost, a withdrawal is refused or an account is closed, Indian consumer protection and regulators offer little help, because the service is not licensed in India. Funds may be frozen during bank reviews. Winnings may also have tax implications under Indian income tax law; consult a qualified tax adviser.

  • No Indian regulator to complain to
  • Payments may be blocked or reversed
  • Phishing risk from mirror sites and fake apps
  • Possible tax implications on winnings

Our position

This site explains how the 1xBet platform works; it does not tell you that betting from India is legal, because under the 2025 Act it is not. If you are in India, the safest choice is not to bet on offshore sites. If gambling is already causing problems, free and confidential help is available from organisations such as the Tele-MANAS mental health helpline on 14416 and from Gamblers Anonymous India groups.

FAQ

Is 1xBet legal in India?

No. Since the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, online money games including betting are prohibited in India, and 1xBet holds no Indian licence.

Does 1xBet have a licence?

1xBet is operated by Caecus N.V. under a Curaçao online gaming licence. That licence does not make the service legal in India.

Why is 1xBet blocked in India?

Indian authorities block betting websites that are not permitted under Indian law. Mirror addresses that appear afterwards are often phishing copies.

Can my UPI payment to a betting site be blocked?

Yes. The 2025 Act bars banks and payment providers from facilitating payments for online money games, so such payments may be declined or reversed.

Where can I get help with problem gambling in India?

You can call the Tele-MANAS mental health helpline on 14416 for free, confidential support, or contact a Gamblers Anonymous India group.
